How to Prepare Your Home for a Restucco Project

Restuccoing your home is a smart way to protect your property, increase its value, and give it a fresh, updated look. But for a smooth and stress-free project, preparation matters.

At Stucco Champions, we’ve completed hundreds of residential and commercial restuccos across Southern California. Based on our experience, here’s how you can prepare your home and property to ensure a successful outcome from start to finish.

1. Clear the Area Around Your Home

Before we arrive, we recommend removing any items that block access to the walls. This includes:

  • Patio furniture

  • BBQ grills

  • Gardening tools or hoses

  • Wall décor or lighting

  • Trash bins, kids’ toys, or equipment

Giving our crew a clear workspace reduces delays and protects your belongings from overspray or falling debris.

2. Trim Back Trees, Shrubs, and Vines

Plaster application often requires scaffold access and full wall visibility. Please trim:

  • Tree branches that are within 2–3 feet of your walls

  • Overgrown vines, bushes, or hedges

  • Any loose vegetation that could blow into wet plaster

This ensures clean lines, easier setup, and prevents plant damage during prep and spraying.

3. Expect Temporary Noise and Dust

Restuccoing involves grinding, sanding, and spraying — it’s a messy job. If you work from home or have small children:

  • Keep windows and doors shut during the process

  • Inform any neighbors about the job and estimated duration

  • Plan for some temporary disruption during work hours

4. Turn Off Sprinklers and Outdoor Water Sources

Moisture is one of exterior coating worst enemies during application. To avoid curing issues:

  • Turn off sprinkler timers at least 24 hours before your start date

  • Avoid hosing or washing near the walls until we give the go-ahead

  • Ensure there’s no drainage or landscape runoff hitting your exterior walls

5. Secure Pets and Provide Property Access

To keep everyone safe:

  • Keep dogs and pets indoors or away from the work zone

  • Provide access codes or gate instructions beforehand

  • Let us know if anyone else (e.g. gardener, pool cleaner) will be on-site during the job

6. Communicate Special Conditions

During our walkthrough, be sure to mention:

  • HOA requirements or restrictions

  • Custom architectural elements or finishes to preserve

  • Any preferred access points (e.g. alleyways or backyards)

Our team will plan accordingly to meet your expectations and ensure compliance with local guidelines.
